Alice Oyaro appointed as Transform Trade’s new CEO

We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Alice Oyaro as Chief Executive Officer of Transform Trade, following an extensive global search.

Serving as Interim CEO since May 2024, Alice has guided Transform Trade successfully through a period of significant transition. She brings over two decades of leadership experience across international development, partnerships, and systems change. Prior to joining Transform Trade, she held senior roles at the Aga Khan Foundation, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Diakonia, and ActionAid.

Alice Oyaro, CEO of Transform Trade, said:

“I’m excited to lead Transform Trade into its next chapter. I believe deeply in our mission and the values we stand for. At a time when global trade dominates the headlines, it’s vital that producers in the Global South are not only seen but heard in shaping the future of trade and its impact on people and planet. I have every confidence in our strong team, and in the power of multistakeholder partnerships to deliver lasting, people-centred change”

Alice's expertise spans partnerships, organisational development, civil society strengthening, sustainable business, gender equality, and social inclusion. She has led and advised organisations at the highest levels – both in executive roles and during a period of consultancy.

She joined Transform Trade in September 2022 as Director of International Programmes, Policy and Partnerships, was appointed Deputy CEO in November 2023, and has served as Interim CEO since May 2024.

David Pain, Chair of Trustees, said:

“Alice has already demonstrated exceptional leadership during a time of significant change. She brings a clear vision, a collaborative spirit, and a deep commitment to producer-led trade justice. We are excited to have her lead Transform Trade forward into a new chapter of stronger partnerships, greater influence, and deeper impact. The need for people centred trade has never been more urgent – the voice of producers never more important, and we’re confident that Alice is the right leader to take us there”

Alice takes up her CEO role in April 2025 and will continue to lead Transform Trade globally from her base in Nairobi. We look forward to her leadership as we advance our mission – working with producers to create a just and sustainable trading system.
