Tanzania Delicious Cashews is owned and run by farmers – seven women, and one man, and aims to expand its operations in the Makonde region, and export cashews internationally.

They plan to build a new factory – providing more high quality jobs on fair terms, get certification for their organic farming practices, and enable the value from cashew processing to remain in Tanzanian communities.

There’s a growing global demand for cashew nuts, but right now, most of the nuts produced in Tanzania are exported unprocessed – meaning most of the value fails to reach farmers and their families. It’s estimated that with the right investment, up to 60,000 quality jobs could be created in the cashew processing industry in Tanzania.

By paying for additional food hygiene and safety certification courses, Tanzania will be able to reach new markets and increase their sales.

Tanzania Delicious Cashews plan to purchase of a vacuum packing machine, which is essential for sales to international customers. Without vacuum packaging, kernels loose taste and quality, so they can only be sold at low prices to local traders.
