The 'Investor to State Dispute Settlement' mechanism, or ISDS, is a widely-criticised component of many international investment agreements that allows foreign investors the right to sue governments if they feel their investments are under threat. In this paper Reclaiming public policy space: investment protection beyond ISDS, Liz May looks at alternatives to the ISDS system that would protect the ability of democracies to enact domestic policy.
