Sometimes a bicycle is more than a bicycle
Why are people donating to our Work Without Fear Christmas appeal this year? So that we see more stories like this in 2025. Take a look…
This is the story of Tania.
Who, through working with Transform Trade and our partners, joined a collective and set up her own farming business.
And through that business and that support network, she built up first the money - and second the courage - to buy a bicycle for her daughters.
In some parts of rural Bangladesh, not many girls ride bikes - even when it's the difference between a two hour walk to school, and a 30 minute cycle.
It's frowned upon by some parts of the community - much like women going out to work. But things are changing - and earning an income of her own is just the beginning for Tania.
As she says, “Nothing can stop me and my daughters anymore.”
Tania is part of a brave and determined group of people building a brighter, fairer future for themselves - and their children.
The difference this has made is unquestionable. Tania explains -
“We are able to earn on our own now. We are aware now, and we are able to produce more crops with less cost.
Where before it was impossible for women to work outside, now 30 women in our village work outside. We are all connected with some kind of business and we are able to earn good income and support the education of our children.”
Can you help us reach further?
Training and support from Transform Trade changed so much for Tania. But we need to reach even more communities - and we need your help.
Today we're asking you to donate - so that more people can do the simple things that everyone should be able to do - like sending their children to school.
That's the power of trade - to break down barriers that should never have been there in the first place.
